MEDEEM DONATES GPS DEVICES TO THE COPPERBELT UNIVERSITY

On Friday, September 23, 2022, Medeem Zambia donated three top notch and up to date industry standard Trimble T41 handheld GPS mapping devise to the Copperbelt University, department of geometric engineering valued at ZMW100,000 (hundred thousand kwacha). The handover was done by our Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) Mr. Peter Lungu on behalf of Medeem Zambia and was received by Copperbelt University Dean of the school of mines and mineral sciences Professor John Siame on behalf of the Copperbelt university, department of geometric engineering.

Our goal as Medeem Zambia is to support higher education making sure the next generation of Geometric engineers are equipped with industry knowledge so that they can effectively contribute to national development. Medeem has had an existing relationship with the University for two years.

Medeem develops collaborative partnerships with Zambian government agencies.

Constant collaboration with the Zambia Ministry of Lands (MoL), the Zambia Survey Association (ZSA), and the Zambia Institute of Planners (ZIP) have revolved around sharing data standards and the development of multiple Proof of Concepts (PoC). Medeem has gained industry trust by providing technical support using ESRI tools and also assisting agencies to customize solutions to advance their service delivery.

MEDEEM regularizes large numbers of informal settlements throughout Zambia.

People who reside in informal or unplanned settlements face limited opportunity to improve their economic livelihoods. To grow and prosper, residents need their property rights legitimized by being officially included in the country’s legal system. MEDEEM has been working to regularize large numbers of these unplanned settlements across Zambia. In each settlement area, all parcels are mapped and resident’s biographical data is collected and integrated into the Government of Zambia’s GIS. Over 50 Unplanned Settlements across 12 Council jurisdictions have been engaged within the past 3 years. “ESRI’s AGOL suite of configurable applications have enabled Medeem to reach out to augment the technology efforts of our various local council partners, thus, bringing real-world solutions to bear within Zambia” – Ebenezer Odoi (Medeem, CTO).

MEDEEM is working in collaboration with the Darwin Birdwatch Initiative.

Invasive weed and endangered species monitoring mapping and data processing have become a recurring book of business for Medeem. Both the Invasive Alien Plant (IAP) project and the Darwin BirdWatch Initiative have benefited from Medeem’s workflows and technology. Both projects used High Resolutions imagery with remote sensing techniques to generate insight into the spread of invasive species across wetlands in Zambia, and the subsequent change detection monitoring process which is assisting researchers.

MEDEEM Provides baseline spatial data for water and sanitation infrastructure in Lusaka.

Access to sanitation is a challenge in Lusaka, where the lack of improved sanitation regularly claims lives through cholera and other diarrheal diseases. To address this challenge, the Government of Zambia, through Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company (LWSC) and in Partnership with Medeem (and TESCO limited) implemented the Lusaka Sanitation Program (LSP). Over 250 properties were mapped using tools built by Medeem (and leveraging ArcGIS online basemaps and dashboards), with the aim of upgrading service delivery by the Lusaka Water and Sewerage Corporation (funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation).

The new ParcelSurveyor application has addressed real-time syncing of mapping data across field teams; reducing overlapping boundaries and allowing survey teams to work closely together – completing tasks as a unit. This, in addition to detailed attribute data gathering of client parcel descriptions, has streamlined the parcel survey process. ParcelSurveyor leverages content and workflows supported by ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online; giving the production team firm control over tenure data.

MEDEEM to Upgrade GIS system for Lusaka Provincial Planning Authority

Medeem has been contracted by the Lusaka Provincial Planning Authority (LPPA) to upgrade their GIS system. Medeem has begun setting up the GIS Geodatabase which will create a holistic storage database for existing LPPA data, housed on the server and will have the ability to be used by relevant departments. The geodatabase shall have the appropriate attribute table definitions and relevant metadata. Medeem will also be responsible for planning approval database upgrade, software acquisitions and capacity building for LPPA technical staff.

MEDEEM to carry out Sanitation and Water Facilities Survey/Mapping Exercise for Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited

Medeem has partnered with Terrafirma Engineering and Surveying Consult (TESCO) to provide consulting services to carry out sanitation survey and city wide mapping exercise for sanitation and water facilities for Lusaka Water supply and sanitation company limited (LWSC). Medeem in joint venture with TESCO will develop a baseline of spatial data and thematic maps for all water and sanitation infrastructure in unmapped, non-sewered and sewered sanitation areas of the City, develop a GIS database of sanitation facilities and incorporate into related data systems of LWSC and relevant city councils to the extent possible, identify water sources and associated providers of the sanitation service and determine their functionality and build a reliable GIS database related to plots, households and their occupants.

Medeem Zambia donates desktop computer to Chief Chamuka

At Medeem Zambia we are proud to have donated a desktop computer to Chief Chamuka of Chisamba district, in Central Province to provide a solution to land management in the Chiefdom.

The computer has been installed with a database for the purpose of record-keeping. The database includes information and survey diagrams of all the clients that Medeem has surveyed in the Chiefdom.

This will enable the Chamuka Royal Establishment to have quick and easy access to the data that Medeem collects in the field.
